Trip Overview
About 50min from Kuching City and 15min boat trip from Kpg Semadang you’ll find Liza and Lars’ jungle home surrounded by the rainforest of Sarawak, Borneo.
At KuraKura you will find complete peacefulness, no cars or stress; only birdsong and the sounds from the rainforest.
Unless you want to relax on the balcony with a book and occasionally cool down in the river, there are a few different activities to attend.
Jungle shopping: Learn to understand the forest and how the locals have survived from what the forest can provide. What tastes good, what cures sickness, what is eatable and what may hurt you? Follow the hosts to the nearby jungle to pluck wild vegetables, fruits and herbs. If interested join them in preparing all the ingredients for supper.
Trekking: Maybe you prefer a half day walk in the jungle, experience the wild. There are many sorts of plants, trees and animals to be seen along the way, just keep your eyes alert. At the far end of our bat cave there’s a small crystal clear stream where guests usually stop for lunch before heading back.
River Safari: Paddle up the river where guests can stop at one of the beaches for lunch and a bath. There’s a good change of spotting Kingfishers, Eagle, Monitor lizards and other animals from the boat if we’re not making to much noise.
Guests can also paddle downstream and end up in Kpg Semadang, Liza’s home village. A modern Bidayuh village with about 200 villagers, during daytime most people are either working in town or at their garden somewhere around the village. Get some refreshments in the village shop, visit the herbal garden and meet with the friendly villagers.
The Hosts :
Liza: Born and grew up in Semadang village, a small Bidayuh village about 15 min away.
Went to Canada as a teenager, spent a few years there before she started to travel around the world. Met Lars and got stucked in Oslo, Norway for many years before they both moved to Borneo to settle down.
Lars: Born and grew up in Oslo, Norway.
Lived a rather normal life before he found out the thrill around traveling. With biology as a favorite topic he went to Borneo’s rain forest twice trying to explore the jungle and its inhabitants. He met Liza and moved back home, where they both worked hard to finance their dream: Kurakura Homestay
