Bikers smash and overturn car involved in fatal crash

NILAI: A group of motorcyclists damaged the windshield of a car and overturned the vehicle after its driver crashed into a motorcycle in Mantin near here.
The 21-year-old driver of the Proton Wira, who was heading to Seremban from Nilai on Friday night, had lost control of his vehicle when he applied his brakes as a car in front of him had made a sudden turn.
The car then crashed into motorcyclist M. Karunan, 18, who was coming in the opposite direction.
He died at the Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital in Seremban yesterday morning.
It is learnt the group of motorcyclists arrived at the scene of the accident a short while later and damaged the car. It is not known if they were friends of Karunan.
The driver of the Proton Wira, who was unharmed, lodged a police report at the Mantin police station.
Witnesses claimed that a police patrol car was at the scene when the mob damaged the Proton Wira.
A police spokesman said it could not be confirmed yet if a police car was present when the motorcyclists damaged the car.
“Investigations are ongoing.
“We recorded a statement from the driver of the car on Friday, but we now have to call him back again as the case has taken a different turn,” he said.
“It will now be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving,” he said, adding that the driver was travelling with his mother and another relative at the time of the incident.
Karunan’s remains were claimed by family members yesterday evening..
